Trifextra Writing Challenge: 66 word story

The Trifextra Writing Challenge is a writing challenge that happens every weekend- and it's a lightning fast one at that! This week, the challenge is to add 33 words to this 33-word story:

The last strains of sunlight lingered in the corners, grasping every available point of refraction.  She slid her fingertips along the glass wondering if this was all there ever was. Or could be.
Here's my take on the challenge:

The last strains of sunlight lingered in the corners, grasping every available point of refraction.  She slid her fingertips along the glass wondering if this was all there ever was. Or could be.
She had spent hundred years collecting as much as possible, and there was never enough happiness in the world to fill a bottle.
But sorrow was black as tar and filled entire rooms.

(I just couldn't help but go all fantasy on this as well)
Happy Weekend! Be back tomorrow with Sunday Scribblings :)

  1. Although I don't agree with the philosophy, the writing was adroit, compact and moving. What a great line in:
"sorrow was black as tar and filled entire rooms."
I felt that line as a punch in my belly. Sad.

    Thank you. Randy

  2. Yes, I'd like to think you could gather more happiness (if we try) but this is moving and well written.

    1. The thing about great happiness is that it is fleeting when compared to great sorrow, which stays. Thanks for the comment.

  3. this is sad, and the last line truly 'black'. but, i must say, who would want to bottle happiness? it should be free to shine anywhere it wants (:

  4. Nice take on the prompt. Makes me curious where the story could go.

  5. Collecting happiness...don't we all try? I'd like to think she could fill a bottle after 100 years. Beautiful start to a story.

  6. The picture is effective but you gave even better visuals in your words! Walls dripping with tar, vs lighter than air wishes.

Trifecta can't stump good writers, even with stiff word limits. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
