Follow Friday: 1

So it's my very first Follow Friday blog-hop. Yaayy.
Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, and this week's question is.....

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

A. This one's easy.
Historical romance.
Give me anything with princes, princesses, marquises, swooning heroines, men in breeches, stories about evil twins and lost princes and inheritances and dowries...and I'll faint. But not before I barf.
Anything where women don't wear jeans or, in fact, anything above the knee, cannot stand up for themselves against abusive males (or do stand up and is branded a rebel, a wild-cat to be TAMED. UGH) and one look from a male melts off her kneecaps is a no-no for me. Put in castles and old English and nasty, unfleeable arranged marriages and I am dead.
Bear in mind that I'm talking about those pink-and-yellow jacketed things with weirdly dressed people on the front cover.

  1. That totally made me laugh. It's good to know where you stand. I enjoy historical romance sometimes but I cannot do scary books. I'm a big wimp. :) BIG. I'm a new follower. Have a great weekend!

    1. Aimee- horror is my thing. I can read Stephen King at midnight while the soundtrack of the Exorcist is blasting through my sound system :D But you know I'm scared by the original versions of Grimm's fairytales? Guess we all have our limits of fright. Thanks for commenting!

    1. Yup, that's what put so many different kinda books on the shelves. You know my hate for historical romance was probably cultivated because my best friend used to read this terrible family saga where everyone seemed to marry cousins and men kept staring at the backs of women. Gross!

  4. LOL no historical romance for you then

  6. Hahaha I love your post! I'm not too opposed to the princess themed books, but you're right, if she's too weak or needs to be tamed I'm not into it. I want a strong heroine, and if she's a princess too, then more power to her!

  10. I've seen this answer a lot today. I like some but not all historical romance - there are definitely those that have the drawbacks you mentioned. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  11. The majority of historical romance definitely fits your description, haha. I'll admit that occasionally I'm in the mood for a romance, but it has to be a good one.

  19. Great answer! I never liked historical romances until I had to read The Other Boleyn Girl for book club. I hated the cover and waited forever to start because I thought it would be terrible. I was very surprised and I loved the book.

Thanks for stopping by my blog hop. :) I follow you already as Fairday/Jess.

  21. Hi! Sorry for the late FF reply, I was busy with Uni and haven't been blogging for a while, thanks for stopping by my blog!

I love everything romance, however I had never tried Historical romance because I couldn't get into the setting and I guess that ruined it for me :P Great post and I'm following back!
