Trifecta Writing Challenge: Cut Out Ones Will Suffice

Image
For Trifecta Writing Challenge: Prompt is Year (as in usually represented by a number) NOTE: How this one came to be, I have absolutely no idea. At first it was about sisters. Then it was about basements. Then I watched too much Supernatural.  Suffice to say, this one is the most scary 333 words I've ever written. Hear me? Morbid! Very! It’s almost here, the new year.” “I wish it weren’t.” “I’m sorry, Rose.” I open my eyes. Marie’s eyes are open and violently blue. Ships are wrecked in the maelstrom of those irises. Quick Tales 2: The Rocking Horse

Image
Quick Tales is basically flash fiction, tiny short stories. Mostly inspired by pictures. Mostly less than thousand, sometimes even less than five hundred words. The Rocking Horse was written in less than half an hour on the back of a notebook in a boring class. I like to think of it in tones of black, white and red. Any theories on what the girl could be? Leave me a comment to let me know:) The inspiration for this story. Of course, I  fictionalized  the appearance greatly. The sculpture is by: Samantha Mckeown Sculpture I Santa Fe College Found objects, paint 20"x36"x14"  The Rocking Horse The rocking horse is a gift. It comes to the Care Well Orphanage for Girls packed in a large cardboard box. It bears the name of the little blind girl, arriving exactly at midnight on her birthday, and a note saying “a companion for your adventures,” in bright purple ink. There is no return address. Similar gifts have made their way to the little blind gir...

Goodreads Summary (a bit shortened) : A dazzling debut, a blazingly original voice: the ten stories in St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves introduce a radiant new talent. In the collection’s title story, a pack of girls raised by wolves are painstakingly reeducated by nuns. In “Haunting Olivia,” two young boys make midnight trips to a boat graveyard in search of their dead sister, who set sail in the exoskeleton of a giant crab. In “Z.Z.’s Sleepaway Camp for Disordered Dreamers,” a boy whose dreams foretell implacable tragedies is sent to a summer camp for troubled sleepers (Cabin 1, Narcoleptics; Cabin 2, Sleep Apneics; Cabin 3, Somnambulists . . . ). And “Ava Wrestles the Alligator” introduces the remarkable Bigtree Wrestling Dynasty—Grandpa Sawtooth, Chief Bigtree, and twelve-year-old Ava—proprietors of Swamplandia!, the island’s #1 Gator Theme Park and Café Russell’s stories are beautifully written and exuberantly imagined, but it is the emotional precision behind...
