WISHFUL THINKING

Here we are, post-hiatus! And what better way to be back in the blogosphere than with two awesome pre-publication can't-wait titles! Happy WoW guys! (There will be more on the hiatus, and pictures, later. For now----here we go!) This week both my picks have something in common: beaches. I'm in that phase where I'm finding books set by the seaside and devouring them. Ah, been a while since I did one of these. Anyway, as you all know, Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read , and is all about spreading some blogosphere love. The question for this week is: Q. Have You Ever Bought a Book Because of a Bad Review? A: Yes, I bought the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare after one of my good friends read the book and trashed it so much that I just HAD to read it. Of course, her being a Harry Potter fan and fan-fiction writer was the main problem here: she had heard about the whole plagiarism fiasco and we had both read Cassandra's HP fanfic- the Draco Trilogy- and she thought the Mortal Instruments was basically a recycling of DT. Anyway, I read the book and sort of liked it: it was mindless fun if you ignored all the glamour-people and HP comparisons and glitter fizz. I liked Magnus Bane, at least.     So it's my very first Follow Friday blog-hop. Yaayy.  Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read , and this week's question is.....          Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?   A. This one's easy.  Historical romance.  Give me anything with princes, princesses, marquises, swooning heroines, men in breeches, stories about evil twins and lost princes and inheritances and dowries...and I'll faint. But not before I barf.      Anything where women don't wear jeans or, in fact, anything above the knee, cannot stand up for themselves against abusive males (or do stand up and is branded a rebel, a wild-cat to be TAMED. UGH) and one look from a male melts off her kneecaps is a no-no for me. Put in castles and old English and nasty, unfleeable arranged marriages and I am dead. Bear in mind that I'm talking about those pink-and-yellow jacketed...

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine so we can all talk about the books we're waiting for! This Wednesday, I'm obviously waiting for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern , which is a MG/YA novel already being compared to Harry Potter. Really? Harry Potter? I guess I'll just have to wait and see...Since I already did a post on the Night Circus, I'm gonna be focussing on another book, this one by Brenna Yovanoff, whose The Replacement I simply adored because of its fabulous characters and fabulous world. Again, this seems to be a kind of story where the main character is confused between two worlds, as Mackie Doyle was in the Replacement. I think the cover looks really good, although NOWHERE as fabulous as the cover for Replacement, which is on my top best covers ever list. Waiting on Wednesday is a bookish meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where you talk about that one book you're just dying to read. This week (first week, really) the book I just can't wait to read is: 'Chasers' by James Phelan (Alone #1) (Atom, 2nd June 2011) Jesse is on a school trip in New York when his subway carriage is rocked by an explosion. When he and three friends crawl out of the wreckage they discover a city in chaos. Streets are deserted. Buildings are in ruins. And the only other survivors seem infected with a virus that turns them into horrifying predators... THE WHY: Love that cover. Love the words on the cover. Love the blurb. I think anything where everything changes suddenly and inexplicably appeals to me enormously. lol.
