Review: Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Image
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war. This is not that world . Art student and monster's apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is--and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it. In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life. While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope. But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream? Oh, Laini Taylor, you wonderful wom...

Two Books, One Review, New Decisions

Image
It's been a while, right?! Phew, just back from exams and the epiphany that I'm not writing as much as I want to- it's been kind of difficult here. Thanks to the iPad I am now reading more than ever, but as you guys see, the blog posts have been dwindling. The sliding thingy is not sliding anymore. I am not the goddess of commenting anymore. The reason for this unexplained MIA is very simple: there is this little part of me that's nagging at me to stop with the procrastination and just get on with writing what I want to write. What I want to write is some bloody gorgeous fantasy, something new and shiny and lovely. And I've got plenty of new, shiny, lovely ideas- just not the time to write them down. So I gotta let my reviewing take a back seat and get around to doing what I love doing: which is to WRITE.  and that's by  http://valkyriestarr.deviantart.com   I started Wishful Thinking as a blog to put my stories on, but somewhere along the way the review...

Waiting On Wednesday

Image
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we feature the books we're waiting for! MEEP! Look at that frickin' awesome cover! I think I may have died and gone to heaven. The title is perfect. Days of Blood and Starlight, sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Perfect. It's no secret that I adored Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Adored it, read it five times, drew every character in my notebooks, secretly wrote fan fiction that I later hid because I have a tiny problem with bringing fan fiction out into the light. If you haven't read this book, go read it. You'll get karmic points for loving it, I promise. Days of Blood and Starlight. Say it out, real poetic.  Days of Blood and Starlight. More Karou and Akiva and Zuzana. More wishes and worlds and wings and wonder. More of Laini Taylor's absolutely gorgeous writing. Ah, sigh of bliss. BLURB THING as found on GOODREADS In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaim...

Cover Crazy: Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Image
SO this time we're featuring a book which has multiple covers. This week, we have The Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor These are the covers most of us know: I like these two: the first one is intriguing but sorta odd to see. The second one with the iridescent feathers would look so much more beautiful on hard back!                               I loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor but I have a bone to pick with the cover designer for the Indian version of the book's cover.    Now, this I don't get at all! I would never pick this book up because the cover just looks REALLY weird. What were they thinking? I don't like the red and blue together, and it looks like she's a stork. Then there's this one, this beauty in blue:     Although the feather looks like a corn-stalk and the c...

Review : Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Image
T he Daughter of Smoke and Bone might be the best written paranormal romance I've read in a while. Let me put it like this: Laini Taylor's prose is magical. She can bring to life the twisting, tangled streets of Prague or the noisy hot squares of Morocco with about as much ease as most YA authors portray American high schools. To better get this review done, let me break it into segments. Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head...
